Jacksonville, Alabama -- After three years and over 300 people interviewed, award winning radio news anchor Ed Moore III officially left his post Wednesday at WLJS studios in Jacksonville, Alabama.
The 21-year-old Birmingham native will now serve in his next position as president of the Justice and Civil Rights Initiative at Jacksonville State University, a civil and human rights group created by Moore in November.
He released this final statement Wednesday:
"Working at this radio station for the past three years has been one of the absolute greatest joys of my life. I cannot think of any other time in my life where I have been doing something I know I was called to do and the universe perfectly aligned itself with my goals and aspirations. The only reason I was able to continue working as long as I did was because of all of you. You kept listening to our programs. You kept responding to our press releases and news reports. You kept giving us your support. You gave me the courage and the strength each and every single day to wake up and tackle the challenges of this planet we live on called Earth.
"I was nervous entering this line of work at such a young age. To be honest, I did not think I could do it. But each of you, my fans, my followers, my listeners, you said 'yes, you can', and yes, we did. We have done it and most importantly, we have done it together. To think this was done all by myself would be negating the hard work put in by hundreds of other people who helped bring my life to where it stands today.
"I would like to thank all of my supervisors and colleagues at WLJS, family, friends, consultants, media professionals, public relations personnel, as well as every single guest that I have ever had the pleasure of interviewing. We did it, everyone.
"I leave you all with this final thought:
"What is it that gets you up in the morning? What is it that makes your spirit spark? What service do you have to provide to the world? Pray about it, then, go seek it. Your heart is still beating for a reason. The blood in your veins remains warm for a purpose. Every day your feet hit the floor is another chance at a greater beginning. Don't miss out on the opportunity. Your work for the world is never done, even when you think it is. Even something as simple as making someone laugh or putting a smile on someone's face is a priceless service that could save the lives of countless human beings you come across.
"The universe is waiting for your service. What kind of service will you give it? I end with my favorite quote from Oprah Winfrey, 'I won't say goodbye. I'll just say 'until we meet again.'"
